Do you know Nagahama?
Nagahama is established as Castle city in 1573. This city has been flourishing as transporting intersection connecting Kyoto, Osaka, Kanazawa, and Tokyo. Especially, locating by the largest lake Biwa is succeeding its position.
From Edo era, “Hama-chirimen” is generated and being key industry in Nagahama. Hama-chirimen is known as the top quality of silk in Japan, and dyed to famous Kimono Kyo-yuzen, Kaga-yuzen and so on.
In 19th century, elementary school, national bank, trail station is established in Nagahama.
A point worthy of special mention is, every these flourishing history is led by civilians and powerful merchant, not by government. Their inviting guest and Omotenashi mind made it possible.
